Entire population of Tasmania use Ferry Road

Well actually to be a little more accurate the number of passengers using the Bruny Island Ferry each year is very close to the the total population of Tasmania.  Of course this is statistics so in order to arrive at that conclusion you have to allow that each passenger makes a trip to Bruny and a trip back.

In the past twelve months 220,000 passengers departed from the Bruny Island Ferry terminal in Kettering.  220,000 x 2 trips = 440,000 trips along Ferry Road in one direction or the other.

OK it’s a little less than the total population of  Tasmania; but not by much.  Whichever way you look at it the infrastructure of Ferry Road just isn’t up to the job.  Especially when you consider the capacity of the public toilets at the Ferry Terminal;  the only ones in the area.  The ferry departures around breakfast time can result in some serious “bottlenecks”.

Maybe someone can provide the statistics on how many  kilometers of toilet paper get used annually or how many litres of “effluent” has to be pumped out from the ferry terminal holding tanks.  Shane?

While there were 440,000 people that used the ferry one way and the other, there are many thousands of cars campervans ect that drive along ferry rd and dont use the ferry,eg tourists and boat owners. There is one boat repairer who drives up and down the road at least 20 times a day.
