Labor promise $8 million for Ferry Road

Premier Bartlett has pledged $8 million to Fix Ferry Road.  The promise is part of Labor’s Community Roads Package announced yesterday.

Funding for the package is spread over 4 years and will of course be contingent on Labor still being in power come the end of March.

This is the first real sign of financial commitment to Fix Ferry Road in over 15 years of community campaigning.  Let’s hope the opposition parties will match the promise – just in case.

Congratulations to Picton Hay, Graham Bannister and Tony Parsey, together with all there supporters for their diligent work towards the “Fix Ferry Road” project. It is pleasing that the Premier has announced $8 million for the upgrade of Ferry Road at Kettering. The Bruny Island Community Association fully supports all the endeavours of the “Fix Ferry Road” group. What is needed now is for the Liberal Party to also commit to $8 million if they are elected into government.

Thanks for the congratulations Keith and David.

The support of Councillors and of the Bruny Island community is very much valued. I suspect this is just the start of a long slog but this is at least the first positive sign of some real financial commitment.

The efforts of the Kettering and Oyster Cove Residents Group over the past 15 years should not be underestimated. If they hadn’t been chipping away for so long I doubt we would have had this breakthrough moment. There are many people who have been working behind the scenes and many factors at play – this website is just one small contribution to maintaining the issues in front of the pollies.

Well, I wish you all good luck. The way I see it though, and history shows, if either Labor or Liberal get elected the money will quickly be re-diverted to forestry or pulp mill roads.
